Catholics for Kerry

More Bishops speak:

Bishops Brandt and Wuerl in PA

I think it is a shame that the Bishops have abdicated their leadership in society and have slipped into partisan roles. If for instance there was another close election with recounts and all and tensions were running high, a Catholic Bishop would have been one person who could step up and calm the nation and serve as an honest broker.

However, the Bishops have lost all credibilty with the public and have become no more or less partisan than every one else. The only Bishop who may be acceptable to the public would probably be Cardinal McCarrick who has tried to walk a middle road, but he has offended conservatives by not bowing to their wish to condemn Kerry for his pro-choice position.

It takes a special kind of wisdom to balance leadership within the Church and leadership without the Church.
